Nursing Philanthropy

Published in Nursing Annual Report - 2020

Generous philanthropy enables Suburban Hospital to support a wide range of nursing initiatives that result in improved practices and better patient care.

Each year, the Suburban Hospital Foundation provides more than $300,000 in funding support for critical nursing programs. Expanding and enhancing our nursing excellence fund will assure the continuation of outstanding and innovative patient care through the professional practice of nursing.

Our donors recognize nursing as the cornerstone of quality health care, and their generous gifts, large and small, make nursing excellence possible through continuing education, research, professional development and much more.

We especially thank the following donors for their impact over the past year:

A $180,000 contribution from The J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation supported critical resiliency initiatives for nurses and other front-line staff during the peak of the COVID pandemic. The funds also allowed Suburban to establish the Hopkins RISE (Resiliency in Stressful Events) program on-site. This proven peer-to-peer support program provides emotional assistance to nurses and staff who experience stressful, patient-related events (i.e. a death, an adverse patient outcome, COVID related stress, etc.)

A $100,000 bequest from The Daniel Eisinger Family Trust in memory of Norma and Daniel Eisinger helped build early momentum for the Jacky Schultz Fund for Nursing Excellence, a special funding initiative designed to recognize and honor retiring hospital president Jacky Schultz, M.S.N., R.N., for her years of service and commitment to Suburban Hospital. As a nurse and former CNO of the hospital, she hopes that this fund will help sustain the nurse Magnet program as her lasting legacy.

COVID-19 Comes to Suburban

“We couldn’t be prouder of the way our nurses stepped up to the unique challenges posed by the global coronavirus pandemic. You quickly accepted new assignments that took you out of your comfort zones. You learned how to operate testing centers, and how to don and doff personal protective equipment.“
