Conditions We Treat: Thoracic Outlet Syndrome
The thoracic outlet is the bony ring formed by the top ribs just below the collarbone. Thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) occurs when nerves or blood vessels are compressed by the rib, collarbone or neck muscles at the top of the outlet.

Treatment for Thoracic Outlet Syndrome
Nonsurgical therapy for thoracic outlet syndrome can include several forms of treatment, including:
- Physical therapy with careful nerve stretching movements performed by a qualified and experienced physical therapist with experience treating TOS.
- Injections with nerve blocking agents to suppress pain and reduce swelling and compression.
- Acupuncture, which has provided relief for some patients with TOS.
When physical therapy and other forms of non-surgical treatment fail, your doctor may recommend surgery to restore function and alleviate pain.
