Neurosciences Critical Care Team

The Neurosciences Critical Care Units (NCCU) at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center are internationally recognized multi-disciplinary ICUs with governance through the Departments of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, Neurology, and Neurosurgery. The NCCUs function with a unit-based ICU team from the Division of Neurocritical Care with faculty, nurse practitioners, fellows, and residents along with an extraordinary neuroscience ICU nursing team.

Successfully blending expertise in research, teaching, and patient care, the Hopkins NCCU faculty are prolific academicians, producing a large number of manuscripts and specialty medical meeting presentations each year, with recent publications in prestigious journals.

Dr. Zink has worked as a staff nurse, nurse practitioner and clinical nurse specialist in the areas of neurosciences and stroke, managing clinical care, research and education at the patient, staff and systems levels. She has a track record of leadership in quality improvement efforts, organizing interprofessional teams and translating evidence into nursing practice.

Dr. Zink has published in the areas of neurocritical care nursing, stroke and mobility in neurocritical care. Her research interests focus on applying biomarker measurement of early rehabilitation interventions in neurocritical care and stroke, exploring the effects of team performance on stroke patient outcomes and the use of high-frequency physiologic data to guide patient-centered, precision medicine-targeted therapy in neurocritical care and stroke, and in the care of patients with COVID-19.
