November is Lung Cancer and Mesothelioma Awareness Month

11/19/19 - Facebook Live Event | Clearing the Air on Smoking and Vaping

Once considered a benign alternative to smoking tobacco, recent evidence indicates vaping poses a significant health risk to both users and non-users. A growing number of reports are emerging of illnesses and even deaths resulting from vaping. As of October 17, 2019, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported a total of 1,479 lung injury cases and 33 deaths associated with vaping.

Tune in as Suburban Hospital and Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, in partnership with Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, the American Lung Association and Montgomery County Cancer Crusade, gather medical and public health experts to discuss the dangers of smoking and vaping and share prevention and cessation resources.

11/14/19 - Cancer Surgeon Ashwani Rajput Named Director of The Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center for The National Capital Region

Ashwani Rajput, M.D., a cancer surgeon and researcher with a special interest in health care disparities, has been appointed director of the Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins for the Washington, D.C., region. Recruited during a national search, Rajput assumed his new role Nov. 1 and will be based at Sibley Memorial Hospital.

1/23/19 - Johns Hopkins Cancer Health Community Outreach Takes Next Step with Appointment of Otis Brawley
Otis W. Brawley, M.D., an authority on cancer screening and prevention who served as chief medical and scientific officer for the American Cancer Society and director of the Georgia Cancer Center at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, has been named a Bloomberg Distinguished Professor at Johns Hopkins University.  Brawley will lead a broad interdisciplinary research effort of cancer health disparities at JHU’s Bloomberg School of Public Health and the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Caner Center, working to close racial, economic, and social disparities in the prevention, detection, and treatment of cancer in the United States and worldwide.
