Junior Faculty

The Office of CRTEC supports mentoring and leadership development activities for junior faculty at SKCCC.

Mentoring Committees

Mentoring committees meet annually and provide formal and regular support for faculty career advancement and professional development for Junior Faculty. Mentoring Committees consist of 3-4 faculty members who are Associate or Full Professors, with at least one faculty member outside of the Faculty Member’s immediate program.

Grant Writing Support and Resources

In addition to Grant Writing resources here, Junior Faculty Grant Writing Groups assemble weekly in a 10-week series under the supervision of a senior faculty member to develop ‘grantspersonship skills’ and work on individual proposals. This forum provides a network across Johns Hopkins for junior faculty around scholarly and other professional development activities.

A biennial NIH grant writing workshop brings in hundreds of junior faculty and trainees to engage in grant writing strategies for K-grants and other NIH mechanisms. This popular Workshop is open to SKCCC affiliates and non-affiliates at JHU.

Funding Initiative for Junior Investigators

A new funding initiative was launched in 2021; its resources are directed to support faculty at the Instructor and Assistant Professor levels in their use of the SKCCC Shared Resources (website if available) for pilot projects that will advance their work including towards generating pilot data.

Leadership Development Resources for Junior Faculty

This leadership course is organized by SKCCC’s Director and familiarizes faculty with Core components of NCI-funded Cancer Centers and provides leadership training in areas related to faculty mentoring, grants administration, finance, and education.
