Medical School: Holy Spirit University of Kaslik
Residency: University of ConnecticutMaria grew up in Lebanon and earned her medical degree from the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK). She completed a preliminary year in internal medicine at the American University of Beirut before moving to the United States to complete her internal medicine residency at the University of Connecticut. During residency, she participated in global health experiences in Uganda and the Dominican Republic, where she cared for patients in resource-limited settings and further developed her interest in infectious diseases and antimicrobial stewardship. Outside of medicine, she enjoys traveling, going on road trips, exploring new restaurants, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.

Residency: Indiana UniversitySarah grew up in Fleetwood, Pennsylvania, before moving to upstate NY to attend Cornell University and study Microbiology and Global Health. She then earned an MSc in Control of Infectious Diseases at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, before attending medical school at the University at Buffalo and completing residency at Indiana University. Outside of medicine, she enjoys walking her golden retriever Leonid, traveling, singing, and rooting for the Buffalo Bills.

Medical School: University of Virginia
Residency: Massachusetts General HospitalAmanda grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland and started working at a lab at the NIH while in high school. She studied biochemistry at the University of Maryland-College Park for undergrad. She then completed her MD/PhD at the University of Virginia where she studied how enveloped viruses enter cells and establish infections. After this, she moved to Boston for residency in Internal Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital. She is excited to be coming back to Maryland for fellowship. Outside of medicine, Amanda enjoys hiking, ballroom dancing, and playing boardgames with her husband, friends, and family.

Residency & Chief Residency: OhioHealth Riverside Methodist HospitalCole grew up in Shelby, Ohio. He started his journey through higher education at the University of Toledo, where he studied biology as an undergraduate student before completing his Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences with a concentration in Bioinformatics, Proteomics, and Genomics. He then earned his D.O. degree from Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. After medical school, he attended OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, for his internal medicine residency and chief residency training. Outside of medicine, Cole enjoys watching sports, trying new coffee shops and restaurants, and traveling with his family.

Medical School: UC Irvine
Residency & Chief Residency: Cambridge Health AllianceJordan (she/her) grew up in Boulder, Colorado, and studied Spanish/Latin American Studies at Denison University. Before medical school, she directed youth leadership programs in Latin America, worked in global health in Washington, DC, and served as a medical interpreter. She earned an MD from the University of California, Irvine, School of Medicine through the Program in Medical Education for the Latino Community (PRIME-LC) and an MSc in Control of Infectious Diseases from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She then completed her primary care internal medicine residency and chief residency at Cambridge Health Alliance. Jordan is passionate about building a career in infectious diseases that integrates her dedication to social justice and advocacy, immigrant health, quality improvement, and medical education. Outside of work, she loves running, traveling, baking, and listening to podcasts (at 2x).

Residency: Osler Program at Johns HopkinsArmani grew up in southeast Michigan in a musical Armenian-American family. She studied public policy at the University of Michigan and briefly worked in policy and research before attending medical school at the University of Michigan. She completed internal medicine residency at Johns Hopkins and is excited to be continuing her training at Hopkins in Infectious Diseases. Outside of medicine, you can find her hiking, reading a good book, or eating Taharka Brothers ice cream.

Medical School: Harvard University
Residency: Osler Program at Johns HopkinsKristi grew up in Easton, Connecticut, before moving to Boston to attend Tufts University, where she studied international relations with a concentration in global health, nutrition, and the environment. She completed her pre-medical coursework at the Bryn Mawr Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program. Following graduation, she spent two years as an NIH IRTA Fellow, researching integrated models of care for hepatitis C and opioid use disorder among people who inject drugs. Kristi went on to earn her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed her internal medicine residency at Johns Hopkins. She is excited to be staying at Hopkins for her infectious diseases fellowship. Outside of medicine, Kristi enjoys hiking, exploring new restaurants, cooking for friends and family, and spending time with her husband and their cat.

Residency: Osler Program at Johns Hopkins
Ben grew up outside of Boston before moving to Washington, D.C. for college. Prior to medical school he spent five years at the State Department and CDC, where he worked on global HIV treatment & prevention programs through the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). During medical school and residency he explored his overlapping interests in global health, public policy, and international affairs by working on refugee health programs in Jordan, global COVID-19 policy initiatives, and a One Health multi-hazard risk assessment in Uganda’s West Nile Region. Outside of medicine he enjoys woodworking, detective novels, and spending time with his family. -

Medical School: University of Miami
Residency: University of Washington; Critical Care Fellow at the NIHAnthony grew up in Chicago, Illinois, and studied mathematics at Northwestern University. After college, he co-founded a non-profit that provides free tutoring services for underprivileged immigrant children in the greater Chicago-area, with the belief that education is key to alleviating poverty. But he deeply missed biomedical research, and to acquire further analytical skills, he pursued a master’s degree in biostatistics at Harvard. While at Harvard, he co-founded a non-profit to tackle TB epidemic in North Korea and worked as a biostatistician on HIV-related research. He went on to earn his MD from the University of Miami and completed Internal Medicine residency at the University of Washington. Currently, Anthony is pursuing a combined Infectious Disease Fellowship at Johns Hopkins and Critical Care Fellowship at the NIH. Anthony sees medicine as an agent of social justice, and hopes to pursue research at the intersection Infectious Disease and Critical Care, ultimately to serve the poor and vulnerable globally. Outside of work, Anthony enjoys traveling, scuba diving/surfing, and training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Medical School: St. George's University
Residency & Chief Residency: Stony Brook UniversityAfter immigrating from India, Pronoma grew up in Glastonbury, Connecticut. She earned a BA in Sociology and a BS in Cell Biology at the University of Connecticut, where she served as a UNESCO ambassador for human rights and discovered her passion for partnering with marginalized communities to build capacity and sustainable solutions. Before medical school, she served as a project coordinator for an international nonprofit in West Bengal, India dedicated to the education of children of commercial sex workers. Pronoma then went on to obtain her MD from St. George’s University and completed her internal medicine and chief residency at SUNY Stony Brook, where her research focused on infectious screening and outcomes in veterans with opioid use disorder. She is excited to be a part of the Hopkins ID team where she hopes to continue her work in harm reduction, health equity, and advocacy at the intersection of addiction medicine and infectious diseases. Outside of medicine, Pronoma is an avid board game enthusiast and loves exploring new cafés and restaurants, listening to history podcasts, and traveling.

Medical School: Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University
Residency: Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical CenterZach is originally from Indiana but moved to Delaware as a teenager. He was recruited to play football at Johns Hopkins University and completed a degree in Public Health Studies, where he realized his passion for medicine in the form of patient centered care and service to marginalized people. He received his medical degree from the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University and subsequently completed his internship and residency at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in their primary care track. He was also selected to participate in the JHM medical education pathway, where he was mentored by several ID-trained clinician educators and realized his passion for ID. After residency, he served as an Assistant Chief of Service for the Bayview residency program. In addition to being passionate about coaching within medical education, Zach undertook several clinical research projects in residency pertaining to Treponema pallidum and is hoping to expand upon this work during fellowship. Outside of medicine, Zach enjoys woodworking as well as hiking with his wife and their golden retriever.

Medical School: Oregon Health and Science University School of Medicine
Residency: Osler Program at Johns HopkinsGitanjali was raised in Pennsylvania and completed her BS/MS in Biochemistry at Penn State University. She earned her MD and PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Oregon Health and Science University, where she studied the recognition of tuberculosis by the lung immune system. She then completed her internal medicine training at JHH and is thrilled to be staying at Hopkins for fellowship. She hopes to continue to blend her interests in human immunity and recognition of microbial infection in her fellowship training. Outside of the hospital/lab, Gitanjali enjoys reading, restaurant-hopping, and spending time with her family and friends.

Medical School: Albert Einstein College of Medicine
Residency: University of Washington, SeattleRuth grew up in the Appalachian Mountains and entered the research world via plant genetic engineering with the Virginia Bioinformatics Institute. She majored in molecular biology and biochemistry at Washington University in St. Louis, where she worked in the theater, a gene therapy lab, and as a medical ESL instructor with Virginia Tech. She stayed at WashU to study the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum with Dr. Audrey Odom and fell in love with infectious disease research. Ruth then moved to the MSTP program at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, where she completed her MD and a PhD working in oncology. Eager to return to infectious disease research, she then did an ABIM fast track residency at University of Washington in Seattle prior to entering fellowship at Hopkins. Along the way, she had many odd jobs, including working with ex-racehorses, playing in Celtic and mariachi bands, and doing anatomical illustration for research journals. Outside of medicine, Ruth enjoys rock climbing, sword fighting, the great outdoors, painting, making music, and playing collaborative board games.
