Appointment Questions

When scheduling an appointment, you will need to provide your full name and date of birth, the type of test that was ordered, the reason/diagnosis for the exam, and your insurance information. Please also have your prescription or physician order available when calling. If any special needs, please inform the agent when making your appointment.

We have Patient Liaisons on hand to assist you as we are committed to customer service. We understand you could be anxious and we have staff on hand to help you.

If you have your order, please send in advance. The only order we prefer for you to send ahead of your scheduled appointment is an MRI order — this way, we can ensure your appointment is properly scheduled in a timely manner.

You do not need an order for your annual screening mammogram. We ask that you obtain an order from your doctor for all diagnostic mammograms.

Yes. Patients should arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled appointment time unless otherwise directed. This is to allow for registration before the examination. Patients who provide their cell phone numbers will also receive text reminders of their appointment. You can also sign in electronically in advance through Johns Hopkins Patient Portal (MyChart).

Patients should always bring their picture ID, all insurance cards, exam order form and medication lists to their appointment.

Service animals are allowed in Johns Hopkins Medical Imaging in all public areas. Depending on the exam, they may not be allowed in the procedure room. Please call 443-997-7237 to discuss your options.

After you schedule an exam, our staff will contact your health insurance company to provide preauthorization assistance for your exam, and are available to address any insurance concerns you may have.
Exam Questions

Though you may never meet the radiologist who interprets your exams, they play a critical role in your care and provide information and recommendations to your doctor. Johns Hopkins Medical Imaging’s radiologists are subspecialists, meaning the focus on a particular disease, specific body part or organ system. For example, all breast images are read by radiologists with additional studies through fellowship training in breast imaging.

Certain exams will require extra precautions for pregnant women. If you are pregnant or think you are pregnant, please notify us when you call to schedule your exam and when you arrive for your appointment.

When you schedule an exam, our patient access team will provide you with any preparation instructions over the phone. You will also receive information through MyChart or in the mail. Learn more about each exam.

This depends on the type of exam. When you schedule your exam, you will be provided with an expected time frame.

We do not have an open MRI machine, however we do have machines that are considered large bore that are helpful for claustrophobic patients. We do not want to compromise image quality as we strive to obtain the clearest images. Our goal is to not repeat a study due to artifacts that may occur with an open bore machine.

A Johns Hopkins radiologist will interpret the images and write a detailed report. The results will be sent directly to your physician’s office. Your doctor who ordered the exam will contact you with the results of your exam.

If you are signed up for MyChart, the written report will be posted in your patient portal when it becomes available. A message notification will be sent to the email address you used to register with MyChart. If you wish to request in-person a copy of your report or images on a CD, you must complete a medical information release form. Learn how to order a CD of your images or copy of your report. Your report will be available in MyChart 3-4 business days after it is read by the radiologist.
Imaging & Report Questions

After your exam, Johns Hopkins Medical Imaging radiologists will read the images and detail the results in a written report for your referring physician. The report is sent directly to the referring physician’s office, usually within 24 hours of the exam.
If you are signed up for MyChart, the written report will be posted in your patient portal when available. A message notification will be sent to the email address you used to register with MyChart. Log in to MyChart or learn more about MyChart.
Please note: Radiology reports will not be available to patients until three business days following the radiologist's final report of the imaging study. You can also find out your results by calling your physician who ordered the exam.

Patients or referring physicians may request a copy of the radiologist’s written report or copies of the images on a CD.
Patients must complete a medical information release form before the report or images can be released to the patient. The release form is not necessary for your physician who ordered the exam to receive the report.
Green Spring Station
Please call 410-583-2700 to request a CD of images to be mailed directly to you or your physician. A report is automatically included with the mailing.
You should receive the CD in the mail within seven to 10 business days. If you prefer, you can pick up the CD and report from our location at Green Spring Station.
White Marsh
Please call 443-442-2406 to request a CD of images to be mailed directly to you or your physician. A report is automatically included with the mailing.
You should receive the CD in the mail within seven to 10 business days. If you prefer, you can pick up the CD and report from our location at White Marsh.

Interventional Radiology Questions
Interventional Radiology (also known as IR) uses high-end image guidance, such as X-rays, to treat medical conditions through minimally invasive techniques. Our interventional radiologists can diagnose and treat with unprecedented precision that benefits patients through shorter recovery times, less pain, and reduced risk of complications.

Interventional Radiology is located inside the Johns Hopkins Medical Imaging suite in the new Pavilion III building at Green Spring Station. Green Spring Station offers patients free parking or a free shuttle route connecting to The Johns Hopkins Hospital.
The imaging suite features a dedicated Interventional Radiology care and recovery space exclusively for IR patients. IR procedures at Green Spring Station use the same high-quality equipment as The Johns Hopkins Hospital.

In September 2019, the first phase of outpatient interventional radiology procedures will include port placements and removals for oncology treatment, and other venous access procedures. The next phase will include many more complex IR procedures.

Our committed IR team serving patients at Green Spring Station is the same group of physicians, nurses and technologists from The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Each patient will have a dedicated nurse to guide through the experience and answer any questions. Any after-hours questions about care will be provided by an on-call Johns Hopkins physician team.

Patients will be scheduled through the Johns Hopkins Interventional Radiology Center to coordinate their care. This is the same IR Center coordinating IR patients across Johns Hopkins Medicine. The IR Center determines which patients are eligible for treatment at Green Spring Station. The IR Center is open weekdays from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
The referring provider will be connected to one of our Patient Care Coordinator (PCC) nurses who will discuss the patient’s history and requested procedure with you. The PCC nurse will determine the most appropriate location for the patient and procedure, and will provide you with an appointment date and time at the end of the call.
The IR Center also offers pre-authorization services.
