The Power of Food in Cancer Prevention

Johns Hopkins Medicine Oncology Nutrition Specialist, Lynda McIntyre, R.D., L.D., notes, “It is more important to eat fruits and vegetables than it is to eat organic. I do, however, recommend learning about the Environmental Working Group’s classifications of the Dirty Dozen™ and Clean Fifteen™ with regard to pesticides.”

“I tell my patients that what they eat in the highest quantity on the ‘dirty dozen’ should be purchased in organic form if at all possible. You can eliminate up to 90 percent of pesticides by buying these things in their organic form,” she says. “The fruits and vegetables on the ‘clean fifteen’ have a protective coating or leaves that shelter them from pesticides.”
