Howard County General Hospital Receives an “A” for Patient Safety in Spring 2018 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade - 04/24/2018

Release Date: April 24, 2018

COLUMBIA, Md.—The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit health care ratings organization, today released new Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, assigning letter grades to hospitals nationwide based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms. Howard County General Hospital was one of 750 awarded an “A” for its commitment to keeping patients safe and meeting the highest safety standards in the U.S. HCGH previously received an “A” rating in Fall 2017.

“This ‘A’ rating – our second consecutive – is a gratifying validation of our efforts to provide the safest possible environment for our patients,” said Steven C. Snelgrove, president of Howard County General Hospital. “Patient safety and the patient experience are top priorities of every team member. We are proud that this commitment is recognized nationally.”

Developed under the guidance of a Blue Ribbon National Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,500 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
