House Staff Patient Safety and Quality Committee
The Johns Hopkins House Staff Patient Safety and Quality Committee (HPSQC) is an organization that represents the house staff at an institution-wide level and has a three-fold mission.
- To enable house-staff-driven improvement of patient care and safety at Johns Hopkins.
- To serve as a central resource for house staff to address patient safety concerns.
- To represent house staff in organizational and system-wide safety and quality initiatives.
Our committee sends representatives to several enterprise-level patient safety and quality committees; hosts speaker series on patient safety and quality surroundings methods, initiatives, and career advice; and runs our own quality improvement initiatives throughout the hospital with faculty sponsorship. Most recently, our committee members have been involved in several hospital-wide projects including inpatient clinical communications (Epic Chat and CORUS) and restructuring the HERO system. We have also taken part in adverse event root cause analyses and HERO evaluations.
We are looking for residents and fellows from all specialties with an interest in learning about and carrying out projects around patient safety and quality. We’re taking suggestions for new projects and will be supporting each other in our efforts.
