Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease
The Johns Hopkins Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease works with adults who are at high risk for cardiovascular disease. The center's tripartite mission is to better prevent heart disease through rigorous research, educate physicians and patients and develop the highest level of clinical care for people at risk for developing coronary disease.

Heart Disease Prevention

Blumenthal M.D., director of the Johns Hopkins Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease, discusses new guidelines for assessing the risk of cardiovascular disease and choosing treatment strategies to prevent heart attack and stroke. The guidelines, released by the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology, address cholesterol-lowering medications known as statins as well as lifestyle changes-with diet and exercise-that are important for lowering the risk.
