Letter from Leadership
Dear Colleagues,
(from left) Dr. James Gammie, Talia Bailey, Dr. Charles LowensteinWe are pleased to share this report with you about the Heart and Vascular Institute at Johns Hopkins Medicine. Our mission is to provide comprehensive, high-quality care to your patients. Johns Hopkins Medicine is ranked #10 in the country for Cardiology and Heart Surgery by U.S. News and World Report, and we take great pride in our talented specialists and our advanced programs.
Our multidisciplinary team of cardiologists, vascular specialists, surgeons and advanced practice providers is committed to delivering timely, evidence-based care across the full continuum — from prevention to diagnosis to advanced therapies that ensure your patients receive coordinated, patient-centered treatment close to home. We are dedicated to advancing the field of cardiovascular care through our research enterprise, which is accelerating efforts to prevent and treat cardiac disease at the basic, translational and clinical levels.
Several of our multidisciplinary programs have demonstrated tremendous success over the past year, and those accomplishments are highlighted here for you. The most substantial growth we’ve seen is in our advanced heart failure and transplantation program — tripling our volumes over the past two years. We’ve become the highest volume adult transplant program in UNOS Region 2, and we have the 14th-highest-volume adult heart transplant program in the nation. We have also expanded our electrophysiology ablation program, and we offer the most advanced technologies for transcatheter structural heart procedures. We couldn’t have accomplished this without your support, and we are deeply grateful for the trust you place in our clinicians.
We continually strive to improve access to our services, so that we can provide your patients with the care they need. Our service line structure allows us to innovate as a multidisciplinary care team and provide your patients with high-caliber care across various clinical modalities, all in one visit.
We value the trust you place in us when referring your patients — it is our privilege to work with your teams. We encourage you to contact us any time: We are committed to our communities, to our mutual patients and to our relationships with each of you.
With deepest appreciation,
James S. Gammie, M.D.,, Charles Lowenstein, M.D., Talia Bailey, M.B.A., M.H.A.
