Once considered a benign alternative to smoking tobacco, recent evidence indicates vaping poses a significant health risk to both users and non-users. A growing number of reports are emerging of illnesses and even deaths resulting from vaping. As of October 17, 2019, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported a total of 1,479 lung injury cases and 33 deaths associated with vaping.
