Johns Hopkins Bayview is a level 2 trauma center in southeast Baltimore, one of six institutions within Johns Hopkins Medicine. With nearly 60,000 emergency patients each year, including 4,000 trauma activations, we house a Gold-plus certified comprehensive stroke center and Maryland's only adult burn center. The Medical Center treats more than 16,000 acute admissions each year, a majority of which originate in the Emergency Department.

Our program delivers a hands-on, high-intensity experience with access to some of the top minds in medicine, but with a supportive focus on learning with structured feedback and monitored progress milestones.

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will receive a certificate of completion from Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. The program curriculum is designed such that PA graduates will be eligible upon completion to sit for the NCCPA Emergency Medicine Certificate of Added Qualification Exam.

The program is recognized by the Association of Post-graduate PA Programs (APPAP), and follows the Society of Emergency Medicine Physician Assistants' Postgraduate (SEMPA) education program standards.

Salary and Schedule

The PA residency is a paid position, with an annual stipend of $58,593 (totaling $87,890 over the 18-month residency), as well as a competitive benefits package including health benefits, tuition support, paid time off and professional liability insurance. A typical resident's scheduleincludes both emergency and specialty rotations.

Core emergency department rotations consist of four or five 12-hour shifts each week. PA residents should expect to work 16 to 18 shifts per month, in rotating shifts. Specialty rotationswill vary, and are typically between 40 and 65 hours per week.
