Conditions We Treat: Male Infertility

Male infertility is a factor in more than half of infertile couples’ inability to conceive. If you and your partner have been trying to conceive for more than a year without success, you should seek a fertility evaluation. What to Expect

Because male infertility has so many possible causes, we approach diagnosis and treatment systematically, while taking into account the couple's age, family goals and priorities.

Your fertility evaluation will begin with a review of your medical history and a physical examination, followed by some initial laboratory tests. These tests include one to two semen analyses plus bloodwork to evaluate your hormone levels. Depending upon these results, a more detailed evaluation may include:

  • Repeat semen analyses
  • More specific sperm function tests
  • Additional hormonal or genetic tests
  • Novel imaging tests
  • Testicular biopsy

Based on the findings, we’ll recommend an individualized assessment and treatment approach. Usually this process is a collaboration between your male infertility specialist, reproductive endocrinologists and gynecologists.
