Physicians
Miriam Chan, M.D.
Pediatric Anesthesiology
Dr. Chan specializes in pediatric anesthesia in the Department of Anesthesia at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She previously served as co-director, regional pediatric anesthesia at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood, Florida. She joined Johns Hopkins All Children’s in 2018.

David Clendenin, M.D.
Pediatric Anesthesiology
Dr. Clendenin is a pediatric anesthesiologist at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. He rejoined the medical staff in 2022 after a year away. He originally joined the hospital in 2018. Dr. Clendenin earned his medical degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa where he also trained in general medicine and clinical anesthesiology. He completed an anesthesiology fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts.

Giovanni Cucchiaro, M.D.
Pediatric Anesthesiology Pain Management
Dr. Cucchiaro is the director of Pain Services in the Department of Anesthesia at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. He joined the hospital staff in 2018. Dr. Cucchiaro’s expertise includes pediatric anesthesia, pain management and palliative care. His clinical research interests include the safety of short and long term use of opioids, addiction prevention and use of complementary intervention to assist children with acute and chronic pain. After earning his medical degree from the University of Milan in Milan, Italy, Dr. Cucchiaro completed an internship at Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center in Johnson City, New York. Dr. Cucchiaro completed a residency in general surgery at the University of Milan and an anesthesia residency at Health Science Center SUNY in Syracuse, New York. He then completed a pediatric anesthesia fellowship at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Cucchiaro also holds a masters in international public policy and management from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles.

Jenny Dolan, M.D.
Pediatric Anesthesiology
Dr. Dolan is a pediatric anesthesiologist at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She joined the hospital staff in 2007 and is the Chief of Pediatric Anesthesia. Dr. Dolan earned her medical degree from Javeriana University School of Medicine in Bogota, Colombia. She completed a postdoctoral internship in general surgery and residency in anesthesiology at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida. Dr. Dolan then completed a pediatric anesthesia fellowship at Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami Children’s Hospital. Dr. Dolan earned a Master of Public Health from George Washington University with an emphasis in health policies. Her clinical interests include post anesthesia care, qualitative work, and public health issues.

Richard Elliott, M.D.
Pediatric Anesthesiology / Pain Management
Dr. Elliott specializes in pediatric anesthesiology, acute and chronic pain management, regional anesthesia and is a medical acupuncturist at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. He joined the hospital staff in 2013. He also is associate program director of the Johns Hopkins All Children's Pediatric Anesthesia fellowship program. Dr. Elliott earned his medical degree at Northeast Ohio Medical University. He completed his residency in anesthesiology and fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He earned a post-master’s certificate in evidence-based teaching in the health professions from the Johns Hopkins University School of Education as well as a Master of Science in Jurisprudence in Health and Hospital Law from Seton Hall University School of Law. His medical acupuncture training was undertaken at the Helms Medical Institute. He is board-certified in anesthesiology, pediatric anesthesiology and medical acupuncture. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Shahla Escobar, M.D.
Pediatric Anesthesiology
Dr. Shahla Escobar is a pediatric anesthesiologist at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She joined the hospital staff in 2019. Dr. Escobar earned her medical degree from the University of South Florida. She completed a postdoctoral residency in anesthesiology at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, Texas. After residency, she completed a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at the University of California Los Angeles.

Allison Fernandez, M.D.
Pediatric Anesthesiology / Pain Management
Dr. Fernandez specializes in pediatric anesthesiologist and is the founder of the pediatric pain service at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She joined the hospital staff in 2012. Dr. Fernandez earned her medical degree from SUNY Stony Brook University School of Medicine in New York. She completed an internal medicine internship at North Shore University Hospital in New York and an anesthesiology residency at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. She also completed a pediatric anesthesia fellowship and advanced training in pediatric cardiac anesthesia at Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Fernandez holds a M.B.A. with a concentration in health care management from Boston University Graduate School of Management.

Cindy Hernandez, M.D.
Pediatric Anesthesiology
Dr. Hernandez is a pediatric anesthesiologist at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She joined the hospital staff in 2022. Previously, Dr. Hernandez was a pediatric anesthesiologist at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans. Dr. Hernandez earned her medical degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in Brooklyn, New York, followed by a surgical internship at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, New York. She completed a residency in anesthesiology from Montefiore Medical Center, followed by a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati.

Bhavana Jami, D.O.
Pediatric Anesthesiology
Dr. Jami is a pediatric anesthesiologist at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She earned her medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, Bradenton, Florida. She completed her internal medicine internship at SUNY Upstate University Hospital and her anesthesiology residency at the University of Louisville Hospital. She also completed a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore.

Vyas Kartha, M.D.
Pediatric Anesthesiology
Dr. Kartha specializes in pediatric cardiac anesthesiology at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. He joined the medical staff in 2005. He is an assistant professor of Anesthesia and Critical Care at Johns Hopkins Medicine. Dr. Kartha earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio. He completed a transitional residency at Ravenswood Hospital Medical Center and an anesthesiology residency at Loyola University Medical Center, both in Chicago. Dr. Kartha completed a clinical fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at The Hospital for Sick Children, University of Toronto.

Frederick Kuo, M.D.
Pediatric Anesthesiology
Dr. Kuo is a pediatric anesthesiologist at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital and holds the rank of Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology & Critical Care Medicine at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He joined the hospital staff in 2021. Dr. Kuo earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He completed a residency in anesthesiology at Baylor College of Medicine with training at Texas Children's Hospital, followed by a fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston.

Esteban Lugo, M.D.
Pediatric Anesthesiology
Dr. Lugo specializes in pediatric cardiac anesthesiology at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. He joined hospital staff in 2009. Dr. Lugo earned his medical degree from Universidad Central de Venezuela, Luis Razetti Medical School. He completed an internship and anesthesiology residency at Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Dr. Lugo then completed a pediatric anesthesia and pediatric cardiothoracic anesthesia fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Additionally, he was a cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellow at Emory University Hospital.

Carlos Munoz, M.D.
Pediatric Anesthesiology
Dr. Munoz is the anesthesia director for the Esophageal and Airway Treatment Program at Johns Hopkins All Children’s. He joined the hospital staff in 2022. He was previously an anesthesiologist at Boston Children’s Hospital, and assistant professor of Anesthesia at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Munoz has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and has given many talks internationally, nationally and regionally.

William Nelson, M.D.
Pediatric Anesthesiology
Dr. Nelson specializes in pediatric anesthesiology at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. He joined the hospital staff in 2008. Dr. Nelson earned his medical degree at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and completed his residencies at Medical College of Pennsylvania and University of Virginia. He completed clinical fellowships in pediatric anesthesiology at Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard University and The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario.

Amish Patel, M.D.
Pediatric Anesthesiology
Dr. Patel specializes in pediatric anesthesiology at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. He joined hospital staff in 2007. Dr. Patel earned his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in St. George’s, Grenada. He trained at MCP-Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and completed a residency and pediatric fellowship in anesthesia through Penn State University at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Shivani Patel, M.B.B.S.
Pediatric Anesthesiology
Dr. Patel specializes in Pediatric Anesthesiology at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She joined the hospital staff in 2022. Dr. Patel received her medical degree from Topiwala National Medical College, Mumbai, India in 2000. She completed residencies in Anesthesiology at Seth G.S. Medical College, Mumbai, India (2004) and University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa (2009). She completed a fellowship in Pediatric Anesthesiology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore in 2010 and held the position of assistant professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine from July 2010-June 2022.

Mohamed Rehman, M.D.
Pediatric Anesthesiology
Mohamed Rehman, M.D., is the Eric Kobren Endowed Professor in Applied Health Informatics and a Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care in the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He is the chair of the Department of Anesthesia and Pain Medicine at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. Internationally recognized for his medical and clinical informatics expertise, Dr. Rehman also is director of Perioperative Health Informatics, leading a team that is involved in data-driven research to improve quality, safety and value. Dr. Rehman’s team is one of the few in the world working in real time consumer level and medical data to improve patient outcomes.

Gerson Rodriguez-Fazzi, M.D.
Pediatric Anesthesiology
Dr. Rodriguez-Fazzi specializes in pediatric anesthesiology at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. He joined the hospital staff in 1999. He also is dedicated to providing anesthesia in complex cardiac procedures. Dr. Rodriguez-Fazzi earned his medical degree from the Ponce School of Medicine in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He interned at Louisiana State University Medical Center and trained in anesthesiology at the University of South Florida. Dr. Rodriguez-Fazzi completed a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at the Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, through Northwestern University. He is fluent in Spanish.

Jibin Samuel, M.D.
Pediatric Anesthesiology / Pain Management
Dr. Samuel is a pediatric anesthesiologist and pain management specialist at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. He joined the hospital in 2015 and previously practiced at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami for 5 years. His clinical focus is pediatric anesthesiology and a multimodal approach to pediatric acute and chronic pain. This includes, but is not limited to, alternative therapies for pain management, pain medication weaning and management, nerve blocks/regional anesthesia, and patient-controlled analgesia.

Mahima Shah, D.O.
Pediatric Anesthesiology
Dr. Shah is a pediatric anesthesiologist at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She joined the medical staff in 2023. She also serves as a pediatric anesthesiologist at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital in Brandon, Florida, through a collaborative arrangement with Johns Hopkins All Children’s.

Anna Varughese, M.D.
Pediatric Anesthesiology
Dr. Varughese is the director of perioperative quality and safety in the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Department of Anesthesia. She joined the medical staff in 2019. She previously served as division chief of the Department of Anesthesiology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Her research interests include quality, safety and outcomes in pediatric anesthesiology and health care.

Luigi Viola, M.D.
Pediatric Anesthesiology
Dr. Viola specializes in pediatric anesthesiology at Johns Hopkins All Children’s and serves as program director of the Johns Hopkins All Children's Pediatric Anesthesia fellowship program. He joined the hospital staff in 2020. Dr. Viola was previously a pediatric anesthesiologist at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando. Before that, he served as vice chief of pediatric anesthesia in the Division of Anesthesia at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital at Memorial Hospital in Hollywood, Florida.

Scott Watkins, M.D.
Pediatric Anesthesiology
Dr. Watkins specializes in pediatric anesthesiology for Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. He joined hospital staff in 2018. Dr. Watkins earned his medical degree from Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. He completed an internship, anesthesiology residency and pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Watkins also trained in medical simulation through the Center for Medical Simulation at Harvard University and in quality improvement through Cincinnati Children’s Intermediate Improvement Science Series.

Lillian Zamora, M.D.

Dr. Zamora specializes in pediatric anesthesiology with a focus on simulation-based training at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She joined the hospital staff in 2014. Dr. Zamora earned her medical degree from University of Mississippi Medical Center, where she also trained in anesthesiology. She completed a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at Medical College of Wisconsin Children’s Hospital. Dr. Zamora is fluent in Spanish.

Justin Cournoyer, CRNA, APRN, is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. He joined the hospital staff in 2020. He previously worked at Duke University in the Pediatric Cardiac ICU. After that, he worked as a travel nurse at Johns Hopkins All Children’s and Kaiser Oakland. He received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Duke University and his Master of Science in Nursing in nurse anesthesia at the University of South Florida.

Lauren Freedman, DNP, CRNA, APRN, is a senior staff Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She joined the hospital staff in 2014, and before that worked at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore since 2007. She received her Bachelor of Science at Pennsylvania State University, her Master of Science at the University of Maryland, and her Doctor of Nursing Practice at Johns Hopkins University.

Katherine Khokhar, CRNA

Katherine Khokhar, CRNA, APRN, is a senior staff Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She joined the hospital staff in 2017 and the cardiac anesthesia team in 2020. Katie previously worked as a cardiovascular intensive care unit nurse at Morton Plant Hospital as well as several other hospitals and surgery centers in the Pinellas County area. She received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Covenant College in 2002 and went on to complete her undergraduate degree in nursing at Kennesaw State University in 2003. She obtained her Master of Science at the University of South Florida in 2012.

Nina Madonado, CRNA

Nina Maldonado, CRNA, APRN, is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at John Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She joined the hospital staff in 2023. She previously worked as a pediatric intensive care unit nurse for Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania. She worked as a CRNA at Delaware County Memorial Hospital as well as Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Rutgers University and her Masters of Science in Nursing from Villanova University.

Karen Mischka, CRNA

Karen Mischka, CRNA, APRN, is a senior staff Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She joined the hospital staff in 2022. She previously worked as a pediatric CRNA before moving to adult healthcare for many years and has once again returned to pediatrics. She has an undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University and earned her master’s degree from University of North Carolina.

Tuli Mukherjee, CRNA

Tuli Mukherjee, CRNA, APRN, is a senior staff Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She joined the hospital staff in 2013. She previously worked as a CRNA at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Tuli completed her master’s degree in anesthesia from Barry University.

Kendall Parker, CRNA DNP

Kendall Parker, DNP, CRNA, APRN, is a senior staff Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at John Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She rejoined the hospital staff in 2020, having previously worked as a nurse in the Johns Hopkins All Children’s cardiovascular intensive care unit. She then worked as a CRNA at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and University of Kentucky Hospital. Kendall is a member of the cardiac anesthesia team and is also the manager of advanced practice providers in the Department of Anesthesiology. She earned her undergraduate degree from Florida State University and her Master of Science in Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees from Columbia University.

Adele Roda, DNP CRNA

Adele Roda, DNP, CRNA, APRN, is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at John Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She joined the hospital staff in 2022. She previously worked as a neuroscience intensive care unit nurse for Duke University Hospital and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. She worked as a CRNA at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Moravian College and her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from the University of Pennsylvania.

Candy Rodriguez, CRNA

Candy Rodriguez, CRNA, APRN, is a senior staff Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She joined the hospital staff in 2004. Monique Saxon, CRNA, APRN, is a senior staff Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She joined the hospital staff in 2021. She previously worked in critical care nursing for UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with her master’s degree in anesthesia.

Jordan Sonnier, CRNA

Jordan Sonnier, CRNA, APRN, is a senior staff Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. He joined the hospital staff in 2022. His clinical experience since then includes both pediatric and adult populations, as well as independent office-based plastic surgery anesthesia. He earned his Master of Science in nurse anesthesia from the University of Miami.

Kyle Treen, CRNA

Kyle Treen, CRNA, APRN, is a senior staff Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. He joined the hospital staff in 2022. He previously worked as a nurse in the cardiothoracic ICU at Tampa General Hospital. His experience also includes adult and pediatric experience, ambulatory surgery, an endoscopy center, and office-based anesthesia. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Tampa and a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Miami.

She previously worked as a pediatric acute care registered nurse and as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in pediatric primary care. She received her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of South Florida and has her Pediatric Nurse Practitioner certification.

Bethia Clark, APRN, is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the PreOp clinic at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She joined the hospital staff in 1997. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of South Florida and her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Tampa.

Heather Decker, APRN DNP

Heather Decker, DNP, APRN, PPCNP-BC, is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the PreOp clinic at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She joined the hospital staff in 2012. She previously worked in cardiology as a registered nurse at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse at Children's National Medical Center and Texas Children's Hospital. She earned her undergraduate degree in nursing at Drexel University, her Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania, and her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of South Florida.

Amanda Flores, APRN
Nurse Practitioner / Pediatric Anesthesiology
Amanda Flores, APRN, is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the PreOp clinic at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital. She joined the hospital staff in 2014. She previously worked as a bedside nurse in the Neuroscience and Neurosurgery unit before becoming a nurse practitioner and then worked in pediatric nephrology for three years. Amanda earned her Master of Science in Nursing at University of South Florida.

Susan Johnson, APRN
Nurse Practitioner / Pediatric Anesthesiology
Susan Johnson, MSN, APRN, CPNP-AC, FNP-C, is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the PreOp clinic at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She joined the hospital staff in 2012. She previously worked as a neonatal intensive care nurse at All Children’s Hospital in 1996. Her previous nurse practitioner experience includes the specialties of pediatric pulmonology, infectious disease, and rheumatology. Susan received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Florida, her Master of Science at the University of South Florida, and a pediatric acute care post-master’s certificate at Rush University. Susan is dually board certified as an Acute Care Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board and a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Kristina Banks, APRN, FNP-C is a nurse practitioner with the Acute Pain Management team at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She joined the hospital staff in 2010 as a registered nurse on the Pediatric Medicine unit. Since then, she has had various roles within the hospital, including education specialist, manager of Clinical Policy and Regulatory Readiness, and manager of Regulatory Affairs. She has worked with Pain Management since 2015. Kristina earned her Bachelor of Nursing from Florida State University and her Master of Science from Georgetown University.

Christine Georgeff, APRN
Nurse Practitioner / Pediatric Anesthesiology
Christine Georgeff, APRN, CPNP-AC, FNP-BC, is a nurse practitioner in the Acute Pain Management team at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She joined the hospital staff in 2011 and worked as a registered nurse in the Johns Hopkins All Children’s pediatric intensive care unit. She is nationally certified as a Family and Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and has been with the Pain Management team since 2016. She earned her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from the University of South Florida.

Raymundo Jacinto, PA-C
Physician Assistant / Pain Management
Raymundo Jacinto, PA-C, is a physician’s assistant in Pain Management at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. He joined the hospital staff in 2019. He previously worked as a physician assistant at Penn Medicine, providing chronic pain management for adults. In the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Pain Management program, he works in pediatric acute and chronic pain management. He has established a virtual reality program for children during hospital admissions and is co-chair of the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Multi-Disciplinary Pain Management Committee. Ray is the recipient of the October 2022 APP of the Quarter Award.

Susan Otero, APRN
Nurse Practitioner / Pain Management
Susan Otero, ARPN, FNP, is a nurse practitioner with the Pain Management team at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She joined the hospital staff in 2006. She previously worked in the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Emergency Department as a patient care technician and in Pre-Op and PACU as a registered nurse where she remained until joining pain management in 2022. Susan earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Tampa and her Master of Science in Nursing from South University.

Lena Gendron
Program Coordinator
Lena Gendron joined Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in June 2016. She previously worked in various capacities at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C. Currently, Lena serves as the Program Coordinator for the Department of Anesthesia and Pain Medicine. She is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of the department. She also serves as the Education Coordinator for the department. She obtained her degree in Business Management and Master of Business Administration from the University of Maryland, University College. Lena has over 30 years of experience in research, clinical, and academics.

Amy Traylor
Executive Assistant
Amy Traylor is the Executive Assistant for the Department of Anesthesia at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital. She joined the hospital staff in 2009. She has previously worked in various departments within the organization, joining the Department of Anesthesia in 2020. She earned a bachelor’s degree in organizational communication from Palm Beach Atlantic University.
