Why did you choose to pursue a PGY2 pediatric residency? I was first introduced to pediatric pharmacy when I completed a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit rotation during my fourth year of pharmacy school. I was immediately drawn to the complexity and resilience of the patients and found myself yearning to return back to the pediatric world. I continued to explore various clinical interest areas, including pediatrics, during my PGY1 year, and quickly knew that pediatrics was my passion. Coming from an adult PGY1 program, I knew that I wanted more opportunities to dive deeper into pediatric pharmacy. Thus, I decided to pursue a PGY2 pediatric residency to continue to explore diverse clinical settings and further enhance my clinical skillset.
What drew you to the pharmacy residency program at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital? I was initially drawn to the program due to the wide variety of learning experiences in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. I knew that I wanted ample opportunities to explore pediatric pharmacy in a variety of settings and JHACH offered just that and so much more. I was drawn to the many opportunities to engage with learners, both in the pharmacy department and on the many healthcare teams, to continue to enhance my precepting and teaching skills. After talking with Marla, prior residents, and preceptors, I knew that this program would not only push me to grow as a practitioner but also provide support for my well-being. I am excited to see what the year has in store and know that I will be supported by a robust team the entire time.

Why did you choose to pursue a PGY2 pediatric residency?
I knew pediatrics was my passion prior to starting pharmacy school. I spent time in and out of multiple children’s hospitals as a teenager and quickly realized that children’s hospitals are very special places. The passion, attention to detail, and dedication of healthcare teams in children’s hospitals are unmatched. Through my rotations and electives during pharmacy school, I was able to gain pediatric experience which affirmed my passion. I decided to do a second year of a pediatric residency to gain more knowledge and further explore my areas of interest to hopefully decide on a specialty.
What drew you to the pharmacy residency program at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital?
I was initially drawn to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital because of the variety of elective learning experiences and flexibility of the program. When I met with Marla at Midyear, she offered multiple ways we could tailor the program to my areas of interest. I was also looking for an academic medical center that would provide interactions with a variety of learners and allow me to precept pharmacy students. The thing that ultimately sold me on this program was the people. In addition to the preceptors being experts in their areas and board certified, they were also genuine, personable, and excited to teach, which is just as important to me.
