  • Jon Russell Lab

    The Jon Russell lab focuses on thyroid and parathyroid pathology as well as improving patient safety and education using healthcare technology. Additional focuses include utilizing new technology to advance on the techniques of minimally invasive neck surgery. Current and previous efforts include the development of mobile and web-based applications to educate physicians and patients, utilizing ultrasound for vocal cord imaging, understanding the nuances of advanced thyroid cancer, and exploring the role of scarless thyroid surgery in a North American population.

  • Douglas Ball Lab

    The Douglas Ball Lab conducts clinical trials and pre-clinical laboratory studies of thyroid cancer. Our clinical trials, performed in collaboration with research staff in the upper aero-digestive group in the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, have included protocols for advanced radioiodine-refractory differentiated thyroid cancer and medullary thyroid cancer. Our pre-clinical research, conducted with Dr. Nelkin, Dr. Agrawal and other Kimmel Cancer Center researchers, includes pathogenesis and mechanisms of treatment resistance in medullary thyroid cancer, and pathogenesis and immune-directed therapy of anaplastic thyroid cancer.

  • Vaninder Dhillon Lab

    The Vaninder Dhillon Lab is currently researching 1) the role of voice outcomes in laryngeal dysplasia treated both in the operating room and clinic with the KTP laser; 2) Voice outcome pre and post thyroidectomy 3) Voice outcomes and technique in placement of Montgomery T tubes for subglottic and upper cervicotracheal stenosis.

    Dr. Sidhaye is interested in improving the care of persons with cystic fibrosis, type 1 diabetes mellitus and hospitalized person with diabetes. research topics include bone health of persons with CF undergoing lung transplant, CF-related diabetes mellitus, Care of persons with type 1 diabetes mellitus transitioning from pediatrics to adult specialty clinics, Management of hospitalized persons with diabetes.

  • Kathryn Carson Lab

    The Kathryn Carson Lab investigates ways to improve medical research, particularly in the areas of brain and thyroid cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, atherosclerosis, hypertension, HIV and lupus. Our team seeks to help researchers optimize their studies through better study design, protocol and grant writing, data cleaning and analysis, and publication writing. We work with investigators from a wide range of departments through the Johns Hopkins Institute for Clinical and Translational Research.

Recent areas of focus include pseudohypoaldosteronism type 1 related to novel variants of SCNN1B gene, genetic variance in the ARMC5 gene in primary macronodular adrenocortical hyperplasia and hyperaldosteronism due to de novo KCNJ5 mutation.
