Measuring the Patient Experience

When patients trust their care to The Johns Hopkins Hospital, physicians, nurses and staff strive to make the experience the best that it can be, not just medically, but personally. One indicator of how well Johns Hopkins is doing in that arena comes from patient feedback.

There are two sources of patient data that the public can review to learn more about the patient experience at Johns Hopkins.

Patient experience (HCAHPS)
One survey, known as HCAHPS, asks questions standardized for all hospitals across the United States and is reported periodically on Hospital Compare, a government-sponsored Web site.

Patient satisfaction (Press Ganey)
A second survey, conducted by Johns Hopkins’s survey partner, Press Ganey Associates, collects answers to questions tailored specifically for Johns Hopkins patients.

When making decisions about your health care, it’s important to understand the differences between these measures. Click on the links below to learn more and to see how Hopkins is performing.
