2023 MLK Day of Service
On January 20, 2023, JHM resumed our annual MLK Day of Service with roughly 235 Hopkins members volunteer at 17 local charities. Our appreciation to those who took the time to support these organizations. Baltimore Hunger Project www.baltimorehungerproject.org - is dedicated to eliminating the growing problem of weekend childhood hunger by feeding bodies and minds.
Bea Gaddy Family Centers, https://beagaddy.org/ - is a community based nonprofit organization that assists and provides food and other items to our neighbors throughout the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan Area and throughout Maryland.
Elev8 Baltimore (Edgewood Elementary School) www.elev8baltimore.org - partners with schools, families and the community to ensure that every student is prepared for high school, college career and life.
Franciscan Center www.fcbmore.org The Franciscan Sisters of Baltimore began their ministry in 1891. They fed the hungry and cared for orphans. Recognizing the dignity of each human being and serving all people with respect were cornerstones of their ministry.
Friends of Wyman Park Dell (Wyman Park Dell Playground) www.wymanparkdell.org - is a 16-acre public park that is a landmark in Central Baltimore.
Govans Ecumenical Development Corporation (GEDCO) (Harford House) www.gedco.org - started as a means of answering a strong community need for affordable, supportive living facilities for elderly congregants with low incomes.
Friends of Hampden https://www.hampden55.org - Hampden Elementary/Middle School (#55) has served as the community’s neighborhood school since 1914.
Helping Up Mission www.helpingupmission.org - is leading the fight against addiction, poverty, and homelessness in Greater Baltimore.
Maryland Food Bank www.mdfoodbank.org - is a non-profit organization leading the movement to end hunger in Maryland.
Meals on Wheels of Central MD https://www.mealsonwheelsmd.org/ Founded in 1960, our mission is to enable people to live independently at home through the provision of nutritious meals, personal contact and support services, so that they may age in place with dignity.
Moveable Feast www.mealsonwheelsmd.org - was founded in 1989 by a group of volunteers delivering home-cooked meals to those living with HIV and AIDS in Baltimore City.
The 6th Branch https://t6b.mailchimpsites.com/ - has grown into a neighborhood development nonprofit that stewards 20+ acres of green space and provides volunteer and technical support to multiple community groups and schools. Volunteers are needed to help with basic landscaping projects.
The Maryland Book Bank www.mdbookbank.org - “united in our belief that all children deserve the resources needed to enrich the mind, encourage success, and instill a lifetime love of reading”.
Village Learning Place www.villagelearningplace.org - provides free access to 20,000 books and online resources for over 7,000 Baltimore City residents.

Next Stepps Center https://nextstepp.org/ - The Next STEPP Center educates, supports and empowers women facing unplanned pregnancies with compassionate and professional medical care.
St. Pete Youth Farm https://stpeteyouthfarm.org/ - A place where people can access locally grown produce, learn to grow their own food, and also provide programming to teens that would promote leadership skills, entrepreneurship, urban agriculture, and wellness. Thanks to the City of St. Petersburg, the Pinellas Education Foundation, and the Foundation for a Healthy St. Pete, this idea was pushed towards reality. In 2019, the pilot program for the Youth Farm was established along with the hiring of a Collaboration Manager to implement it.
