Johns Hopkins Visiting Elective Program to Promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Pediatric Healthcare

Program Description

Johns Hopkins Children's Center at twilight

The Johns Hopkins Harriet Lane Pediatric Residency Training Program is committed to cultivating and sustaining an environment that fosters the development of physician leaders who are committed to eliminating the nation’s health inequities through patient care, education, advocacy, and research. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are core values of our residency training program, the Department of Pediatrics, and the School of Medicine. We are thrilled to welcome all students, regardless of race or ethnicity, who are committed to addressing health care disparities to apply for senior elective rotations in Pediatric Cardiology, Endocrinology, Hematology, Infectious Disease or Oncology.

This program will give students an opportunity to experience first-hand our institutional and departmental commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We are providing a stipend of $2500 for up to six qualified students per academic year to help defray the cost of an away rotation. The stipend for student NOT paying for housing will be $1000. We will only consider applicants who wish to complete the elective between July and November of each academic year.

*Applicants from backgrounds underrepresented in medicine are encouraged to apply! According to the AAMC “Underrepresented in medicine means those racial and ethnic populations that are underrepresented in the medical profession relative to their numbers in the general population.”
