Why I chose Johns Hopkins: I chose Johns Hopkins because I wanted a diversity of patient pathologies that only a well respected institution can offer. When speaking with the residents on my interview, everyone was genuinely happy and gave numerous examples of how the program supported them and their educational interests.

We spend a lot of time enjoying all that Baltimore has to offer. Personally, I enjoy working out, all water sports, skiing, golfing and college football. I helped launch a start-up company that provides virtual reality solutions for seniors experiencing cognitive decline, which keeps me pretty busy outside of residency life. What I like about Baltimore: The small-town feel combined with all the perks of a major city is how Baltimore earned the nickname “Smaltimore.” I love the central location of all the best spots in town along the adjacent neighborhoods of Canton, Fells Point, Harbor East and Inner Harbor. The 10-mile promenade has stunning views and runs through all the different neighborhoods, making the city easily accessible for walkers/runners. Baltimore also has an outstanding food scene and there are always events going on in the city — never a dull moment!

I also enjoy playing sports, outdoor activities, travelling and cooking. Why I chose Johns Hopkins: During my preliminary year at Johns Hopkins, I was most impressed by the quality of the people. I feel that this a unique first-class institution that fosters not only professional growth, but personal growth. Johns Hopkins’ world-renowned reputation drew me in, but the people made me want to stay. What I like about Baltimore: Baltimore has everything you would expect from a larger city but with a small-town charm — easy commutes without heavy traffic and reasonable cost of living. I enjoy the diverse neighborhoods, expanding culinary scene and The Cheesecake Factory on the Inner Harbor is a definite bonus for me.

There’s a unique neighborhood for everyone, including the family-friendly suburbs, new age hipster areas and the young lively downtown area. There are also lots of fun waterfront activities and restaurants. Baltimore is a place where a diverse community can come together and enjoy themselves. My absolute favorite part about living in Baltimore is the food. There are so many quality restaurants in the area that it’s hard to find the time to visit them all.

Baltimore has a diverse population, exposing you to a multitude of cultures in and outside of the hospital. It's also close to Philadelphia and DC to meet up with friends. Overall, Baltimore is a gem you don't really expect until you get here.
