Pharmacology Faculty Group Picture - June 2022
Congratulations to Dr. Namandjé Bumpus for being a newly-elected 2022 Council member for President of the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET). Dr. Bumpus will begin her term on July 1, 2022. 2/16/22
Please Welcome Our New Faculty Member, Dr. Bethany Gray!
We are pleased to announce that our new assistant professor, Dr. Bethany Gray, has joined our Department. Dr. Gray's research involves selecting novel aptamers against different cancer targets and utilizes the unique properties of the aptamers to better detect, image and treat tumors. This involves the use of both in vitro biological aptamer selection techniques as well as oligonucleotide synthesis methods. Their ultimate goal is to develop new clinically relevant therapeutic and imaging agents to improve patient outcomes. 2/1/22
Congratulations to Dr. Namandjé Bumpus for being named one of seven Johns Hopkins researchers named AAAS fellows. Learn more at: https://hub.jhu.edu/2022/01/26/seven-aaas-fellows/. 1/26/22
Please Welcome Our New Faculty Member, Dr. Bindu Paul!
We are pleased to announce that our new assistant professor, Dr. Bindu Paul, has joined our Department. Dr. Paul studies the molecular mechanisms underlying redox homeostasis in the brain with a focus on signaling mediated by gaseous messenger molecules such as hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and nitric oxide (NO). H2S and NO signal via post-translational modifications, on reactive cysteine residues, termed persulfidation/sulfhydration and nitrosylation respectively. Learn more about

Congratulations to Mithra Kumar, graduate student in Dr. Robert Siliciano's lab, for placing in the top 3 in Saturday’s Empower Your Pitch final round. She won the Graduate Representative Organization (GRO) Award for Outstanding Creativity in Research Communication. You can see her pitch here (~47 minutes into this recording). 5/1/22
We are excited to share that at the Experimental Biology Conference earlier this month in Philadelphia, three of our Pharmacology students, Colten Eberhard, Eric Mosher and Yuting Yuan (who are in Dr. Namandjé Bumpus' lab), all won awards in the graduate student best poster competition! Colten won first place and Eric won third place for their posters on drug metabolism and disposition. Yuting won second prize for her poster on toxicology. We think it is a record for 3 students from the same program to all win awards in the competition! Congratulations to Colten, Eric and Yuting! 4/28/22
Congratulations to Colten Eberhard, graduate student in Dr. Namandjé Bumpus' lab, for being awarded first place in the 2021 ISSX poster competition. 9/17/21
