Patient and Family Advisory Council at Green Spring Station

The Council is composed of Green Spring Station staff, physicians, patients, family members of patients and members of the community. All members must be 18 years of age or older.

The Green Spring Station PFAC seeks the patient and family perspective to promote a culture of patient and family-centered care. The PFAC provides an avenue for the voice of the patient to be heard.

How to Join

To join, please fill out the application form and submit it according to the instruction in the form.

Volunteers on PFAC whose responsibilities do not include patient interaction are required to meet fewer requirements.

  1. These volunteers will be required to:
    • Complete HIPAA training online (My learning module)
    • Sign a confidentiality agreement.
    • Complete a JHED ID Form.
    • Complete training regarding what it means to be a volunteer in PFCC activities (My Learning modules).
    • Submit authorization for Johns Hopkins to conduct a background check.
    • Understand that if their volunteer activities take them into patient interaction they would need to complete additional requirements with health screening and training/education.
  2. Offered, but not required, will be:
    • Flu vaccine
    • TB spot testing
  3. Volunteers will receive JHED ID to complete online tests.

Patient Advisor Role and Responsibilities

Patients and their families are knowledgeable members of the care team and can offer unique perspectives and valuable feedback about their experience at a hospital. Learn more about what it’s like serving on a PFAC.

    • Promote respectful, effective partnerships between patients, families, and clinicians.
    • Increase understanding and cooperation between patients, families, and staff.
    • Transform the culture towards patient- and family-centered care.
    • Improve quality, patient safety, and patient health outcomes.
    • Establish a link between the hospital and the community at large.
    • Share healthcare experience with doctors, staff and other PFAC members.
    • Participate in group discussions to talk about ideas for how our healthcare organizations can improve care, quality, safety, and services.
    • Provide insight from the patient and family perspective about policies, care practices, and patient education materials.
    • Identify patient and family needs and concerns.
    • Serve on subcommittees and workgroups to help bring the patient and family perspective to these efforts.
    • Encourage and support patient-centered care across the institution.
  • The philosophy of patient- and family-centered care focuses on:

    • Respect for patients' values, preferences, and needs.
    • Coordination of care for more efficiency.
    • Comfort and emotional support for mental health.
    • Information, communication, and education.
    • Involvement of family and friends.
