Johns Hopkins eConsults
eConsults create a virtual pathway within the Johns Hopkins electronic health record system between a primary care provider (PCP) and a specialist. Patients can receive a care plan within a few days without needing an appointment with the specialist.
How It Works
- A provider, typically a PCP, sends specific questions to the specialist via an eConsult.
- The specialist reviews the patient’s chart and sends recommendations to the requesting provider within a few days.
- The requesting provider reviews the recommendations and develops a care plan to share with the patient.
eConsult Benefits
- Start treatment plans faster
- No need to schedule an appointment with a specialist
- No need to ask for or wait on a referral
- Costs less than a specialist visit
- The conversation between the provider and specialist is documented in MyChart.
