Johns Hopkins eConsults

eConsults create a virtual pathway within the Johns Hopkins electronic health record system between a primary care provider (PCP) and a specialist. Patients can receive a care plan within a few days without needing an appointment with the specialist.

How It Works

  1. A provider, typically a PCP, sends specific questions to the specialist via an eConsult.
  2. The specialist reviews the patient’s chart and sends recommendations to the requesting provider within a few days.
  3. The requesting provider reviews the recommendations and develops a care plan to share with the patient.

eConsult Benefits

  • Start treatment plans faster
  • No need to schedule an appointment with a specialist
  • No need to ask for or wait on a referral
  • Costs less than a specialist visit
  • The conversation between the provider and specialist is documented in MyChart.

Available eConsult Specialties
