Jeremy Walston

Jeremy Walston (1961–2025) was an internationally revered clinician scientist who directed numerous healthy aging programs at Johns Hopkins. A renowned expert in geriatric medicine, Walston made influential contributions to clinical care, research, and education in Baltimore and around the world through his creation and leadership of the Johns Hopkins Human Aging Project; his co-directorship of the Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center and the Artificial Intelligence and Technology Collaboratory; and his work on the Clin-STAR network.

In honor of our cherished faculty member and friend, the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology is partnering with his family to create the Jeremy Walston, M.D., Endowed Scholar in Aging and Geriatric Medicine Fund. This fund builds on his legacy, creating a pathway to support new scholars that will last in perpetuity. Because Walston was a stellar mentor and believed in bringing people together from different disciplines to support the next generation of scholars, the fund will support an assistant professor for up to three years as they grow their scientific research in geriatric medicine and gerontology.

This fund follows in the footsteps of the Johns Hopkins Human Aging Project Scholars program, which facilitates basic biologists, clinicians, and public health and translational investigators in developing and implementing diagnostics, treatments, and preventive strategies for older adults; providing interdisciplinary resources for scientific discoveries; and translating and disseminating these to the public.

Walston took every opportunity to bring people from different disciplines together to support the next generation of scholars in the field of aging.
