With their families, friends and faculty members beside them, 116 members of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Class of 2026 gathered on Friday, March 20, for Match Day, one of the most anticipated moments in medical education.
The morning carried the mix of nerves, hope and gratitude that defines the occasion, with remarks from leaders including Dean/CEO Theodore DeWeese, who described those assembled as “the most talented medical school students in the United States.”
Then came noon.
Envelopes opened, cheers broke out and the room shifted from suspense to celebration. Johns Hopkins, University of California San Francisco and Mass General Brigham are the top match institutions this year for Johns Hopkins students. Some 33 students (29% of the graduating class) will remain at Johns Hopkins for residency training. Across the class, internal medicine (15), anesthesiology (10), dermatology (10), and radiology (10) saw the most matches. This year’s match rate for Johns Hopkins is 99%.
Student speaker Michelle Moffa offered a message that captured the spirit of the day: “I am confident that wherever you match, you will flourish. You are compassionate. You are intelligent. And you are committed to showing up every day for your patients as their physician.”
