We're so pleased to announce that John Baddley, MD, MSPH, Professor of Medicine in Clinical Excellence, has been appointed Clinical Director for the Johns Hopkins Division of Infectious Diseases.
A renowned transplant and oncology infectious diseases specialist with nearly 30 years of clinical experience, Dr. Baddley joined the ID Division in early 2024 as Director of Transplant and Oncology Infectious Diseases and is a director of Johns Hopkins Comprehensive Transplant Research Center. He is an exceptional clinician and an outstanding leader.
Before joining Johns Hopkins, Dr. Baddley worked at University of Maryland Medical Center, where he served as Director of Immunocompromised Host Infectious Diseases and the Cancer ID Service, and as Associate Director of Clinical Programs in UMD’s Division of Infectious Diseases. Prior to moving to Maryland, he served as Director of Transplant and Infectious Diseases at the University of Alabama’s Infectious Diseases Clinic. In both Alabama and in Baltimore, he served as an attending physician at Veterans Administration Medical Centers.
As Clinical Director, Dr. Baddley will provide strategic and programmatic oversight for ambulatory and inpatient services; ensure effective high-quality care, patient satisfaction, and safety; and mentor clinical excellence track faculty, staff, and fellows. We are incredibly fortunate to have him on our team, and we’re thrilled he will be leading our clinical mission into the future.
Dr. Baddley steps into the king-sized shoes of Paul Auwaerter, MD, MBA, who will remain on with the ID Division. Dr. Auwaerter has served as clinical director for more than 19 years, growing outpatient services exponentially through the founding of the Rockland Practice at Greenspring Station, pioneering innovations in inpatient service through recruitment of expert clinicians to augment traditional teaching services, developing the Outpatient Parenteral Antibiotic Therapy Program, expanding Transplant and Oncology Infectious Diseases services, establishing the Johns Hopkins POC-IT Guide that features Hopkins’ Antibiotic and HIV Guides, among his many impactful contributions to improved patient care. So many received clinical training from Dr. Auwaerter, whose rapport and compassion is a model. His mentorship and leadership truly transformed our clinical approaches. We offer deep gratitude for his commitment to service, applause for his achievements, and best wishes as he applies his talents more closely to his practice, clinical scholarship, and leadership of the Fisher Center for Environmental Infectious Diseases.
