Please note: We are unable to accept new patients into this program until the end of summer 2021. For questions, please call 410-955-6108. Thank you.

The Pediatric Voiding Improvement Program, or VIP, helps children with the following clinical problems:

  • Daytime urinary incontinence (enuresis)
  • Nighttime urinary incontinence (enuresis)
  • Recurrent urinary tract infections
  • Vesicoureteral reflux
  • Urine holding
  • Stress incontinence

The clinic is made up of a multidisciplinary team, including a pediatric urologist, a pediatric nurse practitioner, a pediatric behavioral psychologist and a pediatric clinical nurse, that share in the development and implementation of a specific treatment plan for each child. Visits are scheduled for one hour and generally include a combination of treatment procedures such as:

  • Bladder ultrasound for measurements of urine volumes pre- and postvoid
  • Urine culture
  • Medication management
  • Biofeedback for pelvic muscle retraining
  • Establishment of voiding routine
  • Assessment of barriers to adherence
  • Nutrition education
  • Behavior therapy
  • Relapse prevention recommendations

Progress is evaluated at each visit and communicated to the child's primary care doctor.
