The Pediatric Liver Transplant Process

There are three stages to the transplant process. All pediatric liver transplant patients can expect to progress through the following phases:

  1. Preparing for the transplant
  2. The Surgery
  3. The Recovery

The pediatric liver transplant process varies slightly from the adult liver transplant process, however all transplant patients and caregivers may benefit from the same basic information, regardless of age. Sam's Liver Transplant

Sam Tiemann and his brother, Ben, are twins, but Sam was born with biliary atresia, a life threatening liver disease. While most people in Maryland were dealing with the blizzards of 2010, Sam was facing something much more challenging. He was at Johns Hopkins Childrens Center getting a liver transplant.
