Field Education Program

The Johns Hopkins Hospital has a tradition of commitment to professional social work education. Fieldwork is an important component of social work education. It is through the integration of the theoretical material presented in the classroom and the opportunity for guided fieldwork practice that students are prepared for professional practice. The goal of the Johns Hopkins Hospital Social Work Field Education Program is to prepare students for practice in a manner that reflects the principles underlying the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics.

Intern applicants must have an excellent educational foundation, superior communication skills, and the ability to adapt to a complex and fast-paced organization. Students seeking admission to the Field Education Program must be referred by the Field Education Office of their graduate program. Internships are enhanced through weekly seminars, which are a cornerstone of the Johns Hopkins Hospital Field Education experience. Seminars expose students to diverse and scholarly presentations from social workers throughout the institution.

The Field Education Program is centralized under the auspices of the Social Work Council at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Questions or inquiries about the Field Education Program can be directed to:
