The Institute for Johns Hopkins Nursing was created in 1996 as a partnership between The Johns Hopkins Hospital and The Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing. Our resources include the expertise and enthusiasm of over three thousand Johns Hopkins nurses and faculty. Our mission is to share the innovations and expertise of Johns Hopkins Nursing in practice, education, and research - locally, nationally, and globally.
Rebecca Barshick, MSN, BA, RN, NPD-BC
Rebecca began her nursing career at JHH in 1994 in the Department of Surgery working with solid abdominal transplant and surgical oncology patients. She then began her focus in staff education in 2000 serving as a department and then central nurse educator. She joined the IJHN team in 2013. She serves as the Accredited Provider Program Director planner, is a certified Emergenetics Associate and Crucial Conversations facilitator and assists in coordination of observership experiences for nursing visitors.
Emily Perrella, MBA
Emily graduated from Penn State in 2010 and has worked for IJHN since 2011. She manages the financial operations of IJHN and currently attends the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.
Kim Bissett, PhD, MBA, RN
Nurse Educator, EBP Specialist
Kim began her nursing career at JHH in 1998 in the Department of Psychiatry. She earned her MSN MBA from the Johns Hopkins University in 2010. Kim has held positions as a clinical nurse, assistant nurse manager, evidence-based practice (EBP) fellow, and EBP Coordinator. In 2016 she joined the IJHN team. Kim specializes in evidence-based practice, teaching courses nationally and internationally.
Kelly Reif, BSN, RN
Project Analyst - Marketing
Kelly began working at Hopkins in 1991 as a pediatric nurse and worked there for 15 years in various clinical roles before moving to nursing administration in 2006 where she managed nursing student placements and was the editor of Nursing Under the Dome. She moved to the IJHN team in 2013.
Denise Vera, DNP, RN
Nursing Informatics Coordinator
Denise began her nursing career at JHH in 1995 working in the surgical intermediate care unit and later moved to the surgical ICU. She then took on the role of nurse educator for the clinical information systems education center. She joined the IJHN team in 2014 and serves as the nursing informatics coordinator and nurse educator.
