Abstract
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) continue to increase in the EU and European Economic Area (EU/EEA), according to a new report by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), published on Dec 19, 2025. Although most EU/EEA countries have national strategies to combat STIs, considerable obstacles to accessing prophylactic measures and testing, as well as a paucity of data, have constrained attempts to control the epidemics of syphilis, gonorrhoea, and chlamydia in those countries.
