Patient attitudes towards male partner therapy for bacterial vaginosis

Summary

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) affects nearly 30% of U.S. women and is associated with increased risk of HIV, sexually transmitted infections, and adverse pregnancy outcomes, yet current treatments have high recurrence rates and limited long-term efficacy. A recent randomized controlled trial conducted in Australia demonstrated that male partner treatment (MPT) significantly reduced BV recurrence, providing the first compelling evidence for MPT efficacy. This study seeks to evaluate attitudes towards and preferences for MPT amongst women with BV and their male partners in the United States (US) in order to inform needed future US-based MPT trials, clinical guideline development, and ultimately MPT implementation strategies.
