Genetic markers of b-lactam resistance in Mycobacterium abscessus
Summary
Mycobacterium abscessus can cause life-threatening chronic disease in individuals with lung conditions such as bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, and COPD. With no FDA-approved treatments available, only a few antibiotics can be repurposed to treat this disease. This proposal aims to identify mutations that allow M. abscessus to resist β-lactams and treatments to overcome β-lactam-resistant M. abscessus.
