An unconventional regimen comprising biofilm disruptor as an adjunct with antibiotics to treat Mycobacterium abscessus chronic lung disease
Summary
Mycobacterium abscessus, a rapidly growing non-tuberculous mycobacterium, causes life-threatening opportunistic infections in individuals with structural lung conditions such as bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases. In the course of chronic disease, M. abscessus develops biofilms in the lungs, creating a protective shield against antibiotics. This proposal seeks to explore the idea that a monoclonal antibody, CMTX-101, capable of disrupting biofilms, can effectively target M. abscessus biofilms in the lungs of mice, ultimately enhancing the efficacy of antibiotics.
