Summary

Invasive fungal infections (IFIs) are a major public health concern, affecting 13 million people worldwide each year and leading to over 1.5 million deaths. Local contextual factors thought to be crucial risk factors for IFIs, particularly for molds and endemic fungi, but our ability to identify individuals at risk for or infected with IFIs is limited by our incomplete understanding of how specific spatial factors influence the distribution and spectrum of disease. This proposal is designed to elucidate the impact of spatial and social determinants on IFI risk and outcomes to improve prediction of and clinical care for IFIs.
