Joint Replacement

Joint Academt

Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center offers a comprehensive program for people who need total knee or hip replacement, called Joint Academy. This program redefines the joint replacement experience by fostering a strong partnership between the patient, physician and the hospital team. We believe that informed patients play a vital role in their own care and recovery, so our focus is on engaging and educating patients throughout the entire journey, from pre-admission through post-discharge.

Joint Commission Core Hip & Knee Certification

Joint Commission seal of approval logo

Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Core Total Hip and Knee Replacement Certification by demonstrating continuous compliance with rigorous performance standards. The Gold Seal is a recognized symbol of quality, reflecting our commitment to delivering safe, high-quality patient care.

This certification, offered in collaboration with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, encompasses the entire continuum of care, from pre-surgical orthopedic consultation to intraoperative care, hospitalization or ambulatory surgical center admission, rehabilitation activities, and follow-up visits with the orthopedic surgeon.

Our organization underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review. During this visit, a Joint Commission reviewer evaluated compliance with key certification standards, including program management, supporting patient self-management and delivering and facilitating clinical care. These standards are developed in consultation with health care experts, providers, measurement specialists and patients. The review included onsite observations and interviews to ensure excellence at every level.
