The Heartburn Center

The Heartburn Center

The Heartburn Center at Johns Hopkins Medicine provides personalized management of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), its complications and related disorders.

Many people come to us because over-the-counter or prescription drugs have only eased symptoms partially or temporarily. For others, medications and lifestyle changes haven’t helped at all because an underlying medical condition is causing their symptoms. And some people are simply seeking a more permanent treatment — an alternative to a lifetime of medication.

Whatever brings you to the Heartburn Center, our team is dedicated to helping you find answers, and ultimately, relief.

Multidisciplinary Approach to Care

Surgeons, gastroenterologists and otolaryngologists (ENTs) work closely together with support from specialized radiologists, pathologists and nursing staff members. This multidisciplinary approach ensures that every patient receives a thorough assessment, accurate diagnosis and comprehensive treatment plan. Meet our team of experts.

Access to State-of-the-Art Therapies

Our heartburn specialists are leaders in academic research on endoscopic therapies and novel treatments for GERD. Patients in our care have access to the latest and most advanced endoscopic and surgical options, including those currently only available through clinical trials.

We are the only center in Maryland offering endoscopic transoral incisionless fundoplication (TIF), a minimally invasive, effective outpatient procedure that treats chronic acid reflux without the need for surgery or medications.
