    The fellowship program in child and adolescent psychiatry at The Johns Hopkins Hospital is designed to provide a comprehensive and broad-based education in psychiatric diagnosis and treatment of children, adolescents and their families. The program focuses on developing skill in diagnostic interviewing, case formulation, treatment planning and psychotherapeutic and pharmacologic management in the context of a strong knowledge base in child development, principles of research and familiarity with the function and organization of health, education and welfare institutions.

    The Division of Pediatric Dermatology hosts an American Board of Dermatology-sponsored pediatric dermatology fellowship. The one-year fellowship is open to candidates who are board certified in dermatology and who have a special interest in pediatric dermatology. The program is funded by institutional National Research Service and Primary Care Training Enhancement Awards from the Health Resources and Services Administration.

    The primary goal of the neonatal-perinatal medicine training program is to develop academic neonatologists. Our educational philosophy is to give significant responsibility for clinical and research activities to maximize learning and acquisition of skills, while providing sufficient oversight to guarantee a productive environment. There are three first-year positions, with 8 to 10 fellows in training positions at a time.

    The pediatric anesthesia fellowship is a one-year ACGME-approved fellowship program designed to prepare the individual for an academic or private practice career in pediatric anesthesiology. This combination of clinical, teaching and research activities provides the best preparation for a career in pediatric anesthesia. A two-year non-ACGME fellowship can be arranged, depending upon exposure to research.

    Founded in 1931, the Children’s Cardiac Clinic and the Division of Pediatric Cardiology was directed by Dr. Helen Brooke Taussig and was the first of its kind. Johns Hopkins remains in the forefront of pediatric cardiology in clinical care, new diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, and research. The program trains candidates for careers in academic pediatric cardiology, with a minimum of three years required for the subboard of pediatric cardiology. Additional training is available for those undertaking a supported research program.

    The pediatric critical care experience at The Johns Hopkins Hospital provides for a broad multidisciplinary exposure to the many facets of pediatric critical care medicine. The pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) is a 40-bed unit with a balance of medical and surgical patients. Johns Hopkins Children’s Center is the pediatric trauma and transplant center (heart, liver, kidney) in our region, with the largest cardiac surgery extracorporeal membrane oxygenation program in the state of Maryland and an active critical care transport team.
