Randy Komenski, M.B.A., C.P.A., F.A.C.H.E., S.S.B.B., provides oversight of Johns Hopkins Bayview’s support services and facilities functions, including design and construction, as well as support the executive team on key projects and initiatives.
As director of operations from 2015 to 2018, he helped to lead a Department of Medicine effort to reduce emergency department boarding times and led the Department of Medicine implementation of the Epic electronic medical record. In 2018, Randy was promoted to administrator of the Department of Medicine, where he has provided oversight for approximately 10,000 annual discharges and 100,000 ambulatory visits associated with the department. Randy will be working to transition out of this role over the next several months.
Randy has a proven track record in operational excellence, strategic planning, performance improvement and project oversight. At Johns Hopkins Bayview, he has led performance improvements that significantly improved quality outcomes, reduced Maryland hospital-acquired conditions (MHACs), and implemented operational strategies that generated measurable financial returns. As co-incident commander during the pandemic, Randy guided cross-functional teams through a dynamic and high-pressure environment — demonstrating his capacity for crisis leadership and dedication to patient-centered care.
Randy also serves as chair of the JHBMC Environment of Care Safety Committee and a member of the Hospital Incident Command Response Team. He is a 2018 graduate of the Johns Hopkins Medicine Leadership Development Program. He is certified as a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a Lean Leader for the Maryland Healthcare Education Institute’s Lean Healthcare Series. Randy received his master’s in business administration from Loyola University and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Buffalo.
In his new position as executive director of operations, Randy will have oversight of facilities, emergency management/incident command, environmental care services, facilities engineering, fleet management/campus transportation, food services, parking, patient transport, public safety and supply chain. He will also work on special projects, including design, construction and capital projects.
