Cathy Wood is senior vice president of Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM) and vice dean for finance and administration at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She joined Johns Hopkins in January 2025.
Cathy manages the school of medicine’s overall financial performance and shares oversight of critical administrative functions, including human resources, information technology and department administrators (along with department directors) within the school of medicine. She collaborates closely with the senior vice president and chief financial officer of JHM and the Johns Hopkins Health System to ensure alignment on joint projects, budgets, revenue cycle and reporting mechanisms, and to foster a cohesive approach to driving JHM’s overall performance.
A collaborative senior leader, Cathy has more than 30 years of experience in academic medicine, including at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), Duke University School of Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina and Wake Forest University. Her broad-reaching experience spans executive administration leadership, financial administration, strategic planning, operations, technology services, and research, clinical and education administration.
Prior to joining Johns Hopkins, she was the senior associate dean for finance and administration at the VCU School of Medicine and the chief operating officer of the Medical College of Virginia Physicians.
Cathy earned a Master of Business Administration from the Citadel College of Graduate and Professional Studies and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Radford University. She has served in a variety of leadership positions in national organizations, including as president of the Association of Academic Medical Colleges and the Administrators of Internal Medicine. She also has served on the executive board of the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine.
