Rhinoplasty (Nose Reshaping)

Rhinoplasty, often called a nose job or nose reshaping, improves the shape and proportion of the nose, often enhancing facial balance and leading to improved self confidence.

The plastic surgeons at Johns Hopkins, in Baltimore, Maryland, can remove a hump from the nose, narrow the nose, and refine the nasal tip. At the same time, the plastic surgeon can also correct a deviated septum, which causes breathing difficulties. Some patients may require chin augmentation with rhinoplasty to better balance the face. And some patients choose to do other procedures at the same time, such as a facelift, lip augmentation, brow lift, or eye lift

What to expect during rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is an outpatient procedure that may take from one to three hours and is performed under general anesthesia. Patients usually go home after surgery. Dressings may include internal and external splints, as well as packing. You may be somewhat sore for a day or so after the procedure.

Recovery from rhinoplasty

Expect bruising and swelling, and possibly bruising around the eyes, immediately following the procedure and for a few days after. Bruising and swelling begin to resolve within a week or two and, for some people, may take a few weeks to completely disappear.
