Johns Hopkins Medicine International and Special Services

International patients and their physicians or representatives should contact Johns Hopkins Medicine International at +1-410-614-4633 to schedule medical appointments, coordinate admission and registration, and obtain assistance with language interpretation, transportation and airport pick-up, lodging and consolidated billing. (These services are not currently available at Howard County General Hospital.)

Patient coordinators and interpreters who are fluent in more than 25 languages are on site or on call to assist you with all aspects of care 24 hours a day.

International patients are those who are not citizens of the United States, even if they speak English and do not require interpretation. If you are uncertain about whether you qualify as an international patient at The Johns Hopkins Hospital or Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, please contact International Finance at +1-410-955-5939.

Foreign and Sign Language Interpretation

Recognizing that the exchange of information between patient and provider is an essential element of quality patient- and family-centered care, we provide our patients and their families with qualified foreign and American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters.

Foreign Language Interpretation

The Johns Hopkins Hospital offers more than 50 professional interpreters to assist in any communication – face-to-face and written – between Johns Hopkins staff and patients whose first language is not English.

Our foreign language interpretation services are available around-the-clock in more than 130 different languages, including:

  • Spanish
  • Arabic
  • Korean
  • Chinese-Mandarin
  • Russian
  • Nepali
  • Burmese
  • Hindi
  • French
  • Amharic
  • Urdu
  • Swaheli
  • Creole (Haitian)
  • Bengali

Teletypewriter (TTY)

  • If you have questions, you may contact the hospital via TTY at 410-955-6217.
  • Portable TTY machines are available for use in patient rooms through the Admitting Office on the Ground Floor of the Zayed Tower or from the Language Access Services Call Center.
