GIM Assistant Professor Craig Pollack, MD, MHS, was quoted in an article about costs of medical care that was distributed by the Reuters news agency on Tuesday, September 11, 2012. The article by Genevra Pittman titled “Doctor Incentive Groups May Save Money, with Effort” reports on an analysis that appeared online in the September 12th issue of JAMA. That study by Carrie H. Colla, et al., “Spending Differences Associated with the Medicare Physician Group Practice Demonstration”, looked at the Accountable Care Organization pilot program in order to pinpoint how much and in which cases care groups can expect to find savings.
Dr. Pollack was quoted as disinterested expert because he has also conducted research on cost sharing, yet was not involved in the JAMA study. He is quoted as pointing out that increasing research attention is being paid to “what makes a successful hospital system and what doesn't and how to optimize systems of care.”
