Gilman Student Organizes Fund-Raiser for ADA

GIM Director Dr. Fred Brancai impressed his young neighbor, Jordan Yaffe, a student at Gilman School, with the gravity of type 2 diabetes and the need for continuing research into the disease and its treatment and prevention. Inspired by Dr. Brancati's passions for both diabetes research and basketball, Jordan organized a basketball tournament at his school as a way to raise funds for the American Diabetes Association. The tournament, dubbed "Dunk for Diabetes" has raised a remarkable $1,600 in donations to the ADA.

Dr. Brancati responded, "Jordan's a great kid. I'm grateful for the funds he raised and even more grateful for the honor of his having devoted his energies to my favorite charity." A video of Jordan's introduction to the activity and a short talk to the students by Dr. Brancati can be seen on YouTube.
