The Division of General Internal Medicine is proud to announce the winners of the fourth annual Hopkins GIM Housestaff Research Awards. The winners each receive a cash prize and a trip to Baltimore to present their winning research at a special session of GIM Grand Rounds. Each award is named for a GIM faculty member whose work exemplifies the theme of the award.
The L. Randol Barker Award for achievement in medical education research goes to Douglas P. Olson, MD, for his abstract entitled “Perceptions of Hospital Care Differ between Patient and Physicians.” Dr. Olson earned his medical degree at George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, DC, in 2007, and is now a third-year resident in medicine at Yale School of Medicine.
Jorge D. Ramos, DO, has been awarded the first Diane Becker Award for achievement in clinical epidemiology and prevention for his abstract, “Gleason Scores in Prostate Cancer: What Should We Expect from a Measurement?” Dr. Ramos earned his doctoral degree at the School of Osteopathic Medicine of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 2007. He is now also in his third year of residency at Yale School of Medicine in the internal medicine program.
The Daniel Ford Award for achievement in health services and outcomes research goes to Leah A. Zallman, MD. Her winning abstract is entitled “: Do Residents Provide Higher Quality of Primary Care Than Staff Physicians?: A National Study.” Dr. Zallman took her medical degree at New York University School of Medicine in 2007, and is now a third-year internal medicine resident at Boston (University) Medical Center.
The award winners will attend a dinner in their honor on the evening of Thursday, November 19th, and will present their winning abstracts and receive their awards at GIM Grand Rounds on Friday, November 20th. Additional activities planned for the award winners following Grand Rounds include a campus tour, a luncheon with current GIM Fellows, and opportunities to meet with individual faculty members.
