Hopkins GIM: What's New

Alum Publishes in Archives of Internal Medicine

Dr. Darcy Reed, a recent Hopkins GIM fellowship alum, has published a paper resulting from her work during her fellowship in the current issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine. For the study (Effect of residency duty-hour limits: views of key clinical faculty), Dr. Reed and her Hopkins GIM colleagues (Drs. Rachel Levine, Redonda Miller, Bimal Ashar, Eric Bass, and Joe Cofrancesco) conducted a national survey of key clinical faculty at 39 internal medicine residency programs to elicit their views on the effect of duty-hour limitations on residents' patient care, education, professionalism, and well-being, as well as the effect on faculty workload and satisfaction. Dr. Reed and colleagues concluded that key clinical faculty believe that duty-hour limitations have adversely affected important aspects of residents' patient care, education, and professionalism, as well as faculty workload and satisfaction. They propose that residency programs should continue to look for ways to optimize experiences for residents and faculty within the confines of the duty-hour requirements.
