About Us

Women make up more than 50% of the 300 million people living in the United States, have an average life expectancy into the mid 80’s and spend one-third of those in menopause. While post-reproductive years are often the richest and most rewarding, physiologic health is impacted by the transition to menopause and the postmenopausal state. The decline of ovarian hormones increases the risk of metabolic syndrome, osteoporosis, mood changes, cognitive decline, sexual dysfunction, immune senescence and neuromuscular changes. During the menopause transition, women develop conditions which increase their risk for heart disease, the leading cause of death for women over age 65.

Because aging women are at risk for health challenges, a multidisciplinary approach to menopause health [healthy aging?] is necessary. Assessment should be holistic and include strategies to maintain post-reproductive health. (European Menopause and Andropause Society (EMAS) 2016).
