Behavioral Health Inpatient Service

The 7300 unit is a 24-bed inpatient unit that provides comprehensive multidisciplinary short-term evaluation, stabilization and treatment for adults and adolescents who are experiencing a psychiatric crisis or a temporary exacerbation of a chronic mental illness.

Our patients' needs may include addiction treatment (for alcohol and/or drug abuse), detoxification and referral to the appropriate rehabilitation services and dual diagnosis (primary psychiatric and secondary addiction diagnosis).

Services are provided in a nursing unit that includes several group rooms and an activity/dining area.

Only patients on a voluntary status are accepted. Voluntary means the patient signs a form that indicates they are seeking treatment for a mental disorder.

Adolescent patients have special oversight regarding medications and visitors.

What Does Inpatient Treatment Include?

Treatment involves two stages, inpatient care and planning for aftercare, led by the attending psychiatrist who oversees the patients. Patients participate in a full range of therapy groups that pertain to their specific needs.

Therapy groups

Occupational therapy: Activities are used to enhance coping skills, communication skills, cognitive skills and self-concept.

Group psychotherapy: Group members are encouraged to share feelings and experiences and relate to one another. A certified nurse therapist with a master's degree facilitates this group.

Spirituality: Patients may meet with the hospital chaplain and a therapist to discuss their spirituality and how it can help during this time.

Dual diagnosis group: Patients meet to discuss and obtain education on the use and abuse of psychoactive substances. They also learn about how these substances affect psychiatric disorders.

Addiction counseling/AA-NA groups: These groups are presented by community members who overcame their experiences and want to help others.

Art therapy: Offers patients an opportunity to articulate thoughts and feelings graphically.

Certified music as therapy: Complements the art therapy group with harp music.

Pet therapy: Offers a pleasant respite from all the formal groups with a non-judgmental approach.

Medication group: Review of medications, including reasons for being prescribed, side effects, clarification of dosages and frequency, as well as answering any other questions patients may have.

Healthy solutions: Patients meet with a dietitian to discuss how their diet choices can help them feel better.

Multidisciplinary staff

Each patient is assigned an attending psychiatrist. Additionally, our team includes social workers, registered nurses, occupational therapists, art therapists, dietitians and psychologists with vast and varied experience.

The entire treatment team works closely with families, care providers and outpatient programs involved in the patients’ longitudinal care. They are all part of the treatment team, but the most important member of the treatment team is YOU!

Follow-up support

Social work services and transition follow-up assistance are provided, as well as family and individual counseling. Family/significant other discussion, meetings and interaction are encouraged to promote support, understanding and education of the patient’s needs and health.

Visiting Hours

Our visiting hours are 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. during weekdays. On weekends and holidays, the hours are 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. If you need special visiting arrangements, please contact the staff on ext. 7300.
